Afghanistan is facing a major humanitarian and displacement crisis. Increasing violence and insecurity have prompted the displacement of some 550,000 people within Afghanistan this year. In the absence of peace and development, more people are likely to be forced to flee their homes.

UNHCR, as part of the broader UN country team and lead in protection and emergency shelter in Afghanistan, is well prepared to stay and deliver humanitarian assistance and support to the Afghan people in a complex, dynamic and challenging security environment. We will stay and deliver for the Afghan people as long as we have access to populations in need. Additional international support is critical as these needs continue to grow.

Some 65% of the Afghan population – within and outside of Afghanistan – are children and young people. Increasing humanitarian challenges must be approached in the spirit of resolve - not despair and hopelessness.

We need your help today to protect Afghan families who so desperately need support.
